Title: 88 Conquest "THE PILE"
Post by: Speedy2222 on August 10, 2015, 07:53:24 PM
New to SQP but not quests, I am Speedy2222 on SQC and quite a few other boards. I recently bought a house less than a mile from a major drag strip, I went once with my 87 and loved it. However i realized i needed a dedicated car. So this is quest # 6 for me, an 88 SHP. I picked it up from a member who couldn't get it to run right, but it is the perfect base for what i am wanting, which is a sleeper. Kind of hard to do with these but i feel the look and sound can pull it off, and performance would be there too if i hit my goal of 350+.

This is going to be more of a progress/results thread and i get further into it.

The Plan:
Mx-6 2.2 turbo intake for MPI
install my Fidanza
Big turbo( currently 50 trim ebay )
larger intercooler and hard pipes
install my walbro 255
aeromotive FPR
Leave body how it is but shave and paint engine bay gloss red.
Meth?
Lots of GNT parts

So onto pics of how it sits now! Hope you enjoy this project, i know i will!

He is a gypsy. Roams Indianapolis mostly but can. Spotted around by me from time to time lol. Mostly meets and parts runs. But an occasional fuel pump swap here and there.

LOL Thanks Tye. Located on the west side of Indianapolis less than a mile from Lucas Oil Raceway. Definitely here to learn how to go fast.  I do have a microsquirt here but i am really unsure what i will need to get it to be able to work on my car.

Well I made some small amount of progress tonight. Swapped out injectors, got it to actually idle. Also installed my GNT Performance short throw. Definitely going to have to put one of those in every quest i ever own. MX-6 intake showed up yesterday, greddy turbo timer showed up, and although i won't need it soon i bought a Miller eci checker for a pretty good price, so maybe it will help me atleast figure out what's going on right NOW with some of the settings and sensors.

Welcome too the mayhem

thanks Joe!

Update: Engine is toast i believe :( . When the car starts warming up oil pressure drops, Also changed the oil and there's still alot of moisture on the dipstick. Found a guy just up the street with a speed shop that i am going to be working with on getting this thing rebuilt and back up to making some good power.

I know right, might as well do a 4g or 1jz/2jz swap now and just get it over with.

On another note met a local race shop owner and went to him for a quote on getting the machine work done on the block. $1500  :o  Needless to say i won't be using them.

That was a joke actually.

$1500 just for machine work? Did you contact Randy at EMS? he has a banner on here. Hell, Ill rebuild it for $1500ish and throw in some parts.

Sorry joe, both are spoken for.  So i'm finally starting to have some time to work on this project. Not sure who here follows it but i will one way or another have a conquest at hot rod drag week this year. i'm not sure if i can swing everything i want to do to it while also racing quads but i'm sure going to try. My buddy is coming over this week while i'm off work and we're going to get the engine pulled and start cleaning up the engine bay.   1320Video will be here for street car takeover in early may and my goal is to get this thing together enough to get it out there and try to get some coverage of it. Here's a link to the 2016 locations for drag week. http://www.hotrod.com/events/drag-week-2016-track-locations-and-dates-announced/

I have wanted to do drag week for some time now. Was actually looking into building a hitch a year or two back. Didnt happen. Ended up with trans issues etc etc and never panned out. Now that im "retired" i may be able to make it happen. 2 conquests would be sweet!!

I think I was the first or second that had the Mx-6 running good. To be honest I  think I liked the way it ran with the  Mx6 Intake better than my Magna. My low end was a killer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uiCZ1WvgCc
