Stock exhaust manifold modified for T4
« on: June 11, 2013, 11:16:22 PM »
That is a $30 cast iron T3 to T4 adapter flange. I have the stock collector hogged out to match the T3 flange and then had it welded on with a nickel rod for $75. This gave a 2.75" lift from the stock mount position and scored me atound another 1.5" distance from the head for much more working room as well as plug clearance.

Puts the turbo right where I want it!

Flows well enough for this

Lookin Good. That extra lifting of the turbo is mandatory to run anything with a large comp housing. I needed at least 2" to clear with the HX35 and did something very similar only with a bolt on TD05 to T3 adapter. I should pull it off and weld it, but it if ain't broke (yet) don't fix it.

I use the same adapter as you for the TBi car I am building. Good to hear yours works fine. Although, I may tack weld the nuts on.

But yes, the added clearance is awesome. A pal of mine uses a 1" adapter for his hx35 and he had to twist the turbo slightly to get it to clear. It looks strange since it is also slightly pointed down due to the flange slant.

Tilting it that way would probably help out with getting the outlet pointed in the right direction. It could make the DP interesting though
