Flips 87 Quest **RIP**

Well a car has returned to me after 3-4yrs....

Its a silver 87 Chrysler Conquest I did a rebuild on about 4yrs ago.

Its silver with maroon valour interior.

Anyways Ill only have it for a bit. Looks like the primary injector went south due to dirty fuel aswell as what seems to be a front wheel bearing. Some shmoe also played with the steering gearbox it appears. so im gonna have to mess with that a bit.

This is right before it left following the rebuild

Lets see if I can recall......

Alabama Head
Ajusa Gasket
HyperU's
All new Felpro Seals
All new Timing components
Rebuilt Dist
Rebuilt TBI
Port Matched Intake and Exhaust Manifold
1G MAS
1G BOV
2.5 Turboback Exhaust

Rebuilt brake MC
All New Fuel filters (Prolly gonna need to do those again  )
ABS Elim

Thats all I can remeber at the moment...

Rebuilt it for an owner who DD the car for 1yr who then sold it to another unknown owner that worked the windmills. He drove it when he wasnt out in the fields. Ended up letting it sit for like a yr. The previous owner snagged it for a steal.

He called me right up and told me. about a week later I recieved a distress call....hehehe

Well fix you up in no time

What was done to THIS car...is SOP, if you expect it to be a reliable, DD.

However,  that pretty-much, broke-da-back of cyberquest's shop...
working for NEAR NOTHING!  :(

In really-do, appreciate guys that SOS a Starquest!  8)
I just hope it won't cause a FINANCIAL RUIN of people
whom assist.

Myself... I trim-off a lil' business profit to feed the SOS effort.
But I still wonder, "Why-da-fuck did I get involved, in the first place?"
Then I am reminded of promises I made to God, himself.  8)

Reading my morning, Email...I *KNOW*, I have done some GOOD-DEEDS! 8)

" Ok, I've been reading my ass off on my new car (which happens to be a faded cherry red 66k original mile Conquest tsi), and so far....I have more questions than a two year old lol. One...where do you get the cobra skin split wraps? Two....I am a DSM owner as well (had a 91 talon I was fixing, now have a 93 awd talon), how many of the "dsm tricks" can I use on this car? Such as fp rewiring? Afpr? Etc? In your honest opinion, which motor has the most bang for the buck? The 2.6 or the 4g? The injectors you sell, what ccs are they? What is the stock fuel system good to before I have to upgrade the lines, and such? Cams? Pistons? Etc.....

I will probably find the answers while reading more I know. Btw, I used to live in Raton, and been through Alb several times. Beautiful city, miss New Mexico period."

I'm not so-sure of how to respond to that message.

Keep-at-it, funkyp!

SOP????

Took it out last night. I forgot how smooth this engine ran! My goodness it runs good. Just gotta get the steering sorted. Not getting any unpleasent sounds but lacks alot of power assist aswell as the return to center assist.

Gettin there.

Im no PQ or Cyberquest. Working on jet engines is my main income. I like these cars and making them run good. So I refuse to pretend Im a "Proffessional"  and charge like it.

Alignment is way out of whack.

Or I have seen the pass side relay rod joint get tighter than a bulls ass, but that tends to  make the pump whine.

Quote from: funkyp
Actually just had the alignment done.

It was the gearbox adjuster!!!! That sucker was wound WAAAAYYY in there

Ive never adjusted them before so was unsure what I was doing. When I first tried to loosen it, it only came out maybe a half turn and then locked up so I just figured that was all it was gonna give.

Went back in today and it turned more??? So I had to loosen it, then move the steering wheel then loosen it more. Did that about 4 times. Got it to protrude about as many threads as mine does and it steers like a champ!!!

Glad you figured it out.  :D

When I re-sealed my power steering box some years ago, I ran into the same problem, I adjusted that screw too tight, and had the same no return problem.

Quote from: Professor Quest
[size=14]There are some KEY tools to own.

You use a CALIPER that measures DEEP & record the HEIGHT
of the adjustment SCREW...FIRST.(but still, index the parts  )

I also use a electric, SCRIB-TOOL to ear-mark *ALL*, screw-adjustments
and the locking-rings/nuts....FIRST!

Would you EVER change the back-lash of the Diff gears?
OFF COURSE, NOT! :x Same as the steering, gear box.

The FSM is WRONG to suggest you need to dismantle the
ball-screw-drive, btw.   (you slide-it-out as a unit)

On-da-bench:
1. Turn the input shaft all-da-way, LEFT.
2. Scrib the input shaft with a short, 12 o'clock scrib.
3. Rotate input shaft all-da-way-right & COUNT the turns.(record the turns)
4. Rotate left, again and SPLIT (go half) of the COUNT.
5. Scrib a LONGER scrib (on the input shaft) to *KNOW*...
you have set-it DEAD-CENTER. (12 o'clock)
6. Measure the adjustment screw & record that number.
7. Scrib the lock-nut & adjustment screw. (use a file to
earmark the SLOT, too, as a back-up)
8. Now...take-it-apart.  8) (lift-out the sector shaft)
9. DO NOT ROTATE THE INPUT SHAFT, AGAIN!

You might review this again. I re-edited it, today.
http://starquest.i-x.net/viewtopic.php?t=1147

Why did PQ not define how to replace the TOP, hydraulic seal?
1. They don't typically leak.(better seal, 87+ years. was a TSB)
2. PINHEADS... won't own a caliper and manage to FUCK-IT-UP!
3. You must IMPRESS, PQ to hand-you free info along those lines! 8)
