Upgrading my 6062.....
« on: March 20, 2013, 12:14:19 PM »
Well Ive been on that line for a bit now. Toying with the idea of selling my 6062 and snagging something in the 67mm range $$$$. So I was also considering a turbine housing upgrade. I currently run the .58AR T4 undivided housing. The only other PTE housing is the .68AR. Going off of my MPH increases with added boost has me wondering if I am at the limit of my turbo or if maybe I am limiting it.

So I spoke with PTE on the issue and he (justin) was also in the air. I quite possibly at the max range for my 60mm wheel, but at the same time the .58AR could be chocking it down a bit.

So I can go with a new BB Billet unit of larger size.....$1500!!!!!!!! yuck
or
Purchase the .68AR ($230) housing and do a before and after session at Rock13 to see if it frees up some power.  Then if its still hurting, have the 60mm compressor swapped out for a 62mm ($500) which will obviously flow more, judging by how much power Joe's makes.

So that is my plan. Atleast see what the housing nets me anyways.

Swapped out the housing today. Here are some pics to help people understand what AR / cm^2 is.

.58 AR Housing

.68 AR Housing

As you can see its not just a port size, but an increase in total scroll size. Thats why it is hard for some to grasp.

I know its a bit off topic but I have a question... How does a  P turbine 64.6mm I and 74.2mm E  (what the red car has on now) compare to what you have? I know one cant go only by the size the PTE is alot newer.

On the turbine, inducer is the larger number.
mine has a 72/62.

There is WAY more than size to it though.

Unfortunately, most companies dont release much turbine data. In the end you have to use judgement based on application success or atleast results.

When I try seeing how well turbos perform or compare, I search similar displacement engines with similiar power outputs/goal.
2.3 Ford
2.4 SRT
KA24
or fast spooling 2JZ setups

I hope that helps.
